The U.N. General Assembly will be considering the Human rights situation in Iran in December. The resolution approved last week at the third committee of the assembly will be put for vote in the 59th U.N. General Assembly.
This year, 2004, the Iranians have been facing the continuation of the wide, planned and systematic violation of their human rights. The spring began by the discretion of the right to elect and to be elected, like the other springs and continued by summons and arrests of journalists, workers, students, teachers and so on. In the recent weeks we have dealt with a wave of arrests of Internet weblog writers. According to the information officially reported by the media in Iran, there were 353 cases of summon, interrogation and arrest of social and cultural activists, journalists, clergymen, and artists. 1784 cases of violation of the dress codes for women, participation in parties at homes and dancing, 109 cases of deaths of suspects killed by the police , 46 cases of public executions , 62 cases of prisoners waiting to be executed , 5 cases of amputating parts as order by judges for thieves, and three cases of suspicious death under torture occurred in the jails.
We, the Iranian Human Rights Activists Groups in EU and North America, sixteen voluntary not for profit Iranian associations in Europe and North America, which the main goal is to improve human rights in Iran, publish our report which includes only a part of the violations of the human rights cases in IRAN until the end of Oct, 2004 .
We, request you as an advocate of the improvement of the Human Rights in the world to ask your delegation in the UN to vote for the condemnation of Islamic Republic of Iran in the coming session to help to the improvement of the human rights in Iran.

UK :Human Rights Annual Report 2004
The last year has been a disappointing one for human rights in Iran. Two events attracted particular international attention: the death of Canadian-Iranian journalist Zahra Kazemi in police custody in July 2003, and the mass disqualification of candidates for the Majlis (parliament) elections in February 2004. The death of Ms Kazemi epitomised many of the year’s worst trends. She was arrested for taking photographs of people protesting the detention of their relatives at Evin Prison in Tehran, and suffered a violent death. The Iranian authorities buried the body before a full and public autopsy could be carried out. President Khatami ordered an inquiry, which found that she died from injuries sustained in custody and not from natural causes. The trial of the person accused of causing her death began on 17 July 2004, and ended abruptly a day later. He was later acquitted. Having earlier been assured that the trial would be open, Canadian and other international representatives who wished to attend were barred from the courtroom on the second day. The EU expressed concern that justice might not be done.
Many candidates were barred from standing in Iran’s parliamentary elections, among them a third of sitting deputies. Most of the disqualified candidates were associated with reformist factions. Some other reformist candidates withdrew in protest. It has been claimed that in as many as half the constituencies, electors faced no real choice. EU foreign ministers, including Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, expressed deep regret and disappointment that large numbers of candidates had been prevented from standing, thus making a genuine democratic choice by the Iranian people impossible. The Foreign Secretary has stressed that for elections in any country to be regarded as free and fair, electors must have a chance to vote for candidates with a range of views. The previous Majlis, with a reformist majority, was an important forum for political debate on human rights issues within Iran. The new Majlis, with a conservative majority, is likely to be much less active on this front.

CNEWS: Canada tables UN resolution over Iran
OTTAWA (CP) - Canada has tabled a resolution at the UN General Assembly protesting deteriorating human rights in Iran.
Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew said in a statement Friday that Canada's assessment is the human rights situation in Iran has worsened during the last year.
He added that many members of the international community agree with that assessment.
Pettigrew said Canada believes that Iran needs to hear from the global community that change is necessary.
The resolution was presented with 33 co-sponsors.
It calls upon Iran to make improvements in several areas, including independence of the judiciary, arbitrary detentions, freedom of expression, freedom of the media, treatment of women and treatment of religious minorities.
The Canadian Coalition for Democracies welcomed the resolution.

Human rights situation in Iran documented by pix
Ateqeh Rajabi, age 16
Executed
Amnesty International outraged at reported execution of a 16 year old girl. The execution of Ateqeh Rajabi is the tenth execution of a child offender in Iran recorded by Amnesty International since 1990. Amnesty International has urged Iran’s judicial authorities to halt further executions of child offenders - people who were under 18 years old at the time of the offence. This is to bring Iran’s law and practice in line with requirements of international human rights law.
